Arsenal’s hopes of landing long term target Karim Benzema appear to have improved if reports in the Daily Express are to be believed.

By all accounts Real Madrid are keen to cash-in on £40m rated Benzema, and record signing Gareth Bale, as the Spanish giants target a new wave of Galaticos with Man City’s Sergio Aguero and Borussia Dotmund star Marco Reus being their top targets.

Moves to sell Benzema are a tad hard to fathom considering that he is not only a first team regular under Carlo Ancelotti but has also only recently signed a new long term contract.

The French forward has scored 13 goals in 17 appearances in La Liga and Champions League this term so is clearly proving very able in front of goal.

This source reaffirms Arsenal’s interest in the 26 year old though given the north London side’s recent striker signings such a move is not all that relevant.

Whilst Arsene Wenger would do well to strengthen his defence, and perhaps sign a defensive enforcer, the arrivals of Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez over the summer could render the need to invest a huge sum in another goal-scoring option obsolete.
