Vertonghen is set to quit Spurs in the coming weeks after publicly turning down the offer of a new contract at White Hart Lane, and Liverpool now look like they are set to get their man.

Reports are suggesting that the Reds have met with the Belgian international defender’s agent recently and are confident at being able to pull off a deal in January.

However, though Spurs are thought to be willing to sell him for a cut price fee, the negotiations could drag on for weeks, dashing any early hopes that Liverpool fans might have of concluding the deal quickly.

The 27-year-old joined Spurs back in 2012, and so far this season has made 18 appearances for the club across all competitions so far.
