The 18-year-old is a product of the Stamford Bridge outfit’s youth system, and many were excited to see him make his first appearance for the Blues. He will be hoping to add to this substitute appearance in the near future.

Jose Mourinho has rarely brought through young players in his managerial career, but has been willing to give those players with special talent a chance on the rare occasions they come through.

Mario Balotelli was granted plenty of opportunities by Mourinho at Inter Milan, while Jese at Real Madrid was another identified by the Portuguese boss as someone with big potential.

“I’m so happy to give the kids a chance and, especially, when I give the chance and feel that they have the tools to answer well and make a career at Chelsea,” said Mourinho to the Independent.

“An English player, 18, completely made in Chelsea – if he does it and if he succeeds, it’s good.”

Loftus-Cheek made his appearance for Chelsea with eight minutes remaining. Here’s the moment he stepped onto the pitch as a Blues player for the first time.

As well as completing 100% of his passes, the teenager appeared immensely confident on the ball, and almost scored after rounding the goalkeeper – before being called up for offside.
