It originally looked as though the Brazilian starlet was on his way to La Liga, with Madrid leading the race to sign the defensive midfielder in January. Arsenal look to have trumped the Spanish giants however, with reports suggesting that Estadio Santiago Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti was not willing to meet Cruzeiro’s £12m asking price.

The 21-year-old now looks to be on his way to the Emirates Stadium in January, with Arsenal agreeing to pay the full asking price for the youngster.

With Arsenal lacking a real defensive midfielder over the last few years, Silva could be the perfect player to fill that void. And with more chances of first team football at the Emirates, it shouldn’t be difficult for Arsene Wenger to convince him to make the switch to the Premier League.
