Less competition may seem like good news for the rest of the Premier League clubs chasing Reus, but the fact that City seem resigned to losing out to Real Madrid or Barcelona means Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United are likely to miss out as well.

The Dortmund man has allegedly been learning Spanish ahead of a move to La Liga, and has his heart set on either Madrid or Barcelona.

The other Premier League clubs may not be willing to give up quite so easily, but they should at least ready contingency plans in the event that Reus does end up in Spain.

City now seem likely to put all their efforts into signing Everton’s Ross Barkley, with Manuel Pellegrini thought to be a huge fan of the young Englishman.
