The Croatian international has been fairly abysmal since his £20m switch from Southampton and it not a first team regular and could be offloaded in January if his performances do not improve.

Veteran Kolo Toure has replaced Lovren in a number of recent fixtures and faces an uncertain future on Merseyside though one imagines the chances of the 25 year old being sold would hinge on just how much Liverpool would demand for the defender.

Having seen his side fail to secure a spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League Brendan Rodgers is coming under renewed pressure this term with the bulk of his summer signings failing to impress and the Liverpool manager will find himself in further trouble if his side lose to Man United tomorrow afternoon.

Lovren has proven a shadow of the player who impressed so greatly during his debut Premier League season last term and hasn’t come close to justifying the massive sum paid for his services.
