The Premier League champions are looking worrying short of quality upfront after an injury suffered by the in-form Argentine, with the likes of Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic failing to impress so far this term.

Although Pellegrini has heaped praise on Dzeko and backed him to get back to his best, it is thought that the club could move to bring in someone else upfront, with Alvaro Negredo also a loss after joining Valencia on a season-long loan in the summer.

No specific names have been mentioned as of yet, but City could be ready to spend to strengthen this weak area, with Aguero’s absence until the end of January likely to have a significant impact on the team’s performances.

The 26-year-old is currently the leading scorer in the Premier League and comfortably City’s best player this season.
