Liverpool Legend Suggests £20m Striker As Priority Signing For Former Club

Jamie Carragher would like to see the Reds move for Swansea City star Wilfried Bony.

Former Liverpool defender and one club man Jamie Carragher has put his finger on the man that Liverpool need to target as their main striker either in the January window or next summer, report the Express, after the former centre back lavished praise on powerful Swansea City star Wilfried Bony despite his side’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur today.

Carragher does not believe that the Ivory Coast international would be cheap if his former club did choose to target him, however, with a fee upwards of £20 million being suggested by Carragher as being necessary to lure the former Vitesse Arnhem star away from the Liberty Stadium.

Bony has been superb for Swansea since they paid a club record fee to bring him to South Wales from the Eredivisie and he actually leads the Premier League goalscoring chart for the calendar year of 2014, whilst he is also capable of leading the line on his own as well as any striker in the Premier League.

With England international Daniel Sturridge having been sidelined for much of the season through a succession of injuries and £16m signing Mario Balotelli failing to fire for Brendan Rodgers, Carragher certainly seems to believe that Bony is the man for his former club:

“I hope Liverpool sign him. If Liverpool sign [Mario] Balotelli for £16m, Bony is worth £20m or £25m. I wish Liverpool got him this summer and I hope they’re looking at him in the future.”
