The goalkeeper had a tough start when he first joined the Old Trafford club in 2011, but in this campaign and the last he has been in great form. His performances have gained his team point sin several matches already, and he has been vital behind an injury hit defence.

The Danish ex-keeper won ten major honours in eight years at the Red Devils, and he thinks that the 24-year-old has overcome the doubts that surrounded him during his first season at the club.

“He’s doing really well,” he told Goal. “I think he’s the only player in the squad who performs consistently every time. Last season he was the only player who consistently brought any kind of quality to Manchester United.

“Last season was good for him because it washed away all that happened before. He won the championship in the year before but there was still this doubt about him and I think he washed that away with his performances.”

De Gea will be vital in Man Utd’s push for a Champions League place when the league finishes in May. They are currently in third place after their fifth win on the trot.
