The 30 year old is out of contract next summer and may be tempted by the chance to return to the club where his professional career began.

The England man has come in for a lot of criticism over the past six months and by all accounts the Hammers are ready to turn to their former charge due to the asking price placed by Arsenal on loanee Carl Jenkinson.

Jenkinson is currently in the middle of a season long loan temporary deal and has impressed since moving from north to east London.

Serie A sides AS Roma and Napoli are also said to be keen on Johnson, who is able to pen a pre-contract deal with a prospective suitor in January ahead of a summer switch.

Johnson cost Liverpool £17m in 2009 and he has racked up 176 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
