The White Hart Lane manager has seen his side stutter a great deal this season with average displays mixed among top quality performances and by all accounts Pochettino is keen to offload the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Benoit Assou-Ekotto as well as the aforementioned Belgian.

Villa Park boss Paul Lambert would be loathed to lose England international Delph but the 25 year old’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and as such the Scot may well be open to deals that see the Midlands club garner something from the departure of the former Leeds United man, in preference to losing the player on a free transfer.

Though Dembele has been woefully inconsistent over the past 18 months or so there is no denying that on his day the midfield powerhouse offers a great deal.

Such a swap deal would of course depend greatly on whether the Spurs man would be keen on a move to an Aston Villa side struggling at the wrong end of the table.
