In 2000, Canada shocked the footballing world by eliminating South Korea, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Colombia to win the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

In the group stage, two draws left every team in Group D – Costa Rica, South Korea and Canada – on two points. Canada progressed on a coin flip.
