Crocked midfielder Mesut Özil has hit out at Arsenal’s brittle defence saying the Gunners have shipped some unnecessary goals this season.

Arsene Wenger has already been questioned as to why he didn’t purchase sufficient defensive back-up in the summer, especially as key defender Laurent Koscielny has perennially been on the sidelines with Achilles issues – which has forced the team to rely on a mix of inexperienced youngster and out of form squad members.

Özil has been forced to watch from the sidelines since he aggravated a knee ligament injury in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in October; a period of time in which he has seen his side concede some ridiculous goals and lose a number of games due to naïve defending.

“When you watch the games, we’ve dominated a lot of them but have conceded unnecessary goals,” the North London side’s record signing said in an interview with Arsenal.com.

“That can’t happen, because in the Premier League, every team is capable of beating one another. We have to get our points by playing the game our way. I’m convinced that we will finish the season near the top of the table.”

Arsenal have been without Özil since October 5, a period of time when he has missed 12 games with more expected until he returns in January.

However, the 26-year-old is happy to report that he’s now stepping up his recovery.

“I am working every day to get myself fit and I am on the right path now. It won’t be much too much longer before I am back on the pitch,” Ozil continued.

“I hope to be back training with the whole team again as soon as possible.”
