He also used to manage Chelsea, and his contract at current club Napoli runs out in the summer. With current Reds boss Brendan Rodgers coming under pressure in recent weeks, some have thought that the Spaniard might make a dramatic return to the club. However, he has made it clear that he wants to stay at the Italian club for at least the near future.

The 54-year-old has refused to say who the two teams he has turned down are, but it is possible that one of them could be the Reds. Another former Blues boss, Andre Villas-Boas has also been linked to the Merseyside club’s top job.

“I’ve said no to two offers because I’m the coach of Napoli. For now I want to work here, then we’ll see,” he told reporters.

“In the past 15 days I’ve turned down two offers but I won’t tell you who.”

After their win against Bournemouth in the League Cup on Wednesday night, the Reds’ Northern Irish manager has gained himself a little breathing space at Anfield. However, a loss to Arsenal on Sunday, and that pressure could all come flooding back.
