The 19-year-old winger heads to Amsterdam on January 8 where he will train under the watchful eye of academy director Marc Overmars and first team manager Frank de Boer, according to The World Game.

The Kenyan-born South Sudanese-Australian has been in strong form the the Reds this season and played in the club’s midweek FFA Cup final win over Perth Glory.

Adelaide United chief executive Michael Petrillo told The World Game that Adelaide has not yet discussed any sort of transfer fee with the 33-times Dutch champions.

“It works out well because he doesn’t miss any games because of the break for the Asian Cup and we would be silly not to give Awer the opportunity and let them have a closer look at him,” Petrillo said.

“Hopefully it goes well for him and we will see what happens after that. We’ve had no discussions with Ajax as yet (regarding a possible transfer free) but we have an idea in our heads.

“We’ll see what the feedback is and if there is some interest after that we can talk about it. Awer has two years left on his contract after this one and we certainly won’t be giving him away.

“I feel we have been fair and reasonable in giving him an opportunity and we will see what transpires.”
