Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead as the favourites to sign FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez, with Arsenal and Liverpool both thought to be interested as well, according to the Metro.

The 28-year-old has been greatly impressing in the Primeira Liga in recent times and could well be tempted by a big money move to the Premier League.

Porto are understandably reluctant to part with their prized asset and will do all they can to ensure Martinez stays at the Estadio do Dragao for at least a little while longer.

Since first arriving in Portugal from Mexican outfit Jaguares in the summer of 2012 the Colombia international has been in prolific form in front of goal.

To date Martinez has 77 strikes in 112 games for the reigning Portuguese champions, which has included some vital efforts in the Champions League.

Both the Reds and Spurs in particular are desperate for a forward in the mould of the South American, with both their respective attacks failing to impress so far this season.

At White Hart Lane both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado have been misfiring and manager Mauricio Pochettino has had to rely on the scoring prowess of youngster Harry Kane.

It’s a similar story for Brendan Rodgers, who is having to cope with new signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert failing to impress and constant injuries to Daniel Sturridge.
