Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly far from content with life in Italy.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted to the potential January availability of prolific Argentine international striker Gonzalo Higuain from Serie A outfit Napoli, report the Express, after it emerged that the former Real Madrid star could becoming discontented with life in Naples as Rafa Benitez continues to use youngster Duvan Zapata ahead of Higuain on occasion.

Higuain has been the playing face of Napoli in recent seasons as the club have returned to the Champions League after a long absence, becoming the club’s most well known player when they fought off competition from Arsenal to lure him from the Bernabeu, but Higuain’s form has not been what it once was this season and Benitez has favoured explosive young Colombian Zapata on more and more occasions.

This has seemingly led to speculation that Napoli could be tempted to cash in on Higuain in January, with the player’s fine goalscoring record and continental wide reputation meaning that the San Paolo club could still demand a significant fee if they were to sell Higuain in January.

Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are both very much in need of attacking reinforcements in the new year, however, so they could be tempted by a deal for such a proven goalscorer if the demands of Napoli are not too excessive.
