The Blues skipper believes he still has what it takes to compete at the top level, and Jose Mourinho appears to agree. The Portuguese manager claims he wants Terry to continue his career at Stamford Bridge, so it looks as though the former England international will be signing a new deal very soon.

The 34-year-old is in his 15th season at the club, and has been a perennial figure during Chelsea’s success over the last decade.

“I feel as though I still have an awful lot to give to the team and the club and long may that continue,” he said.

“When you get to 29 or 30, people are saying a player is past his prime. But to be honest, I don’t feel any different to when I was 27 or 28.

“For me, age really is a number. I am injury free, I am feeling fit and the team is doing great.”

With his current deal expiring at the end of the season, Terry is likely to pen a new deal very soon. He should be offered at least another year at the club, with his form this campaign proving he still has plenty to offer Jose Mourinho’s side.

The commanding centre-back did however, say that he will quit when the time is right. Revealing that he wanted to finish his career at the highest level, as those are the years that you are truly remembered for.
