Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers Blasts Diving Arsenal Star After 2-2 Draw

Rodgers believes that Alexis Sanchez dived to the win the free kick Mathieu Debuchy scored from.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has hit out at Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez following an entertaining 2-2 draw between the two sides at Anfield today, with the Northern Irishman believing that Sanchez had dived to win the free-kick just before half time that Mathieu Debuchy scored from to level things up, according to quotes attributed to the Daily Star.

Whilst Sanchez did appear to be clipped by Steven Gerrard in the incident, he did go down late, although it would perhaps be more pertinent for Rodgers to look at the way his defenders were outjumped by the smaller Debuchy for the goal, which came just moments after Philippe Coutinho had fired the Reds into a deserved first half lead.

Indeed, despite only snatching a point through an injury time equaliser from Martin Skrtel, Liverpool were the dominant force throughout the game and may feel that they should’ve won the match, with Rodgers clearly disappointed by the decision to award Sanchez a free kick:

“Alexis Sanchez dived for me and the referee bought it, but we have to defend better. We lost three duels and we need to win the first one.”

Things looked pretty hopeless for Rodgers and his side once Fabio Borini had been sent off for a challenge on Santi Cazorla as the game entered into nine minute of injury time, but Skrtel rose highest to power a corner into the net and save a precious point for the hosts.
