It has been a difficult season for the Reds so far with a string of bad results seeing them eliminated from the Champions League at the Group Stage and currently residing in 11th in the Premier League.

Since the sale of Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona and the long-term injury concerns of Daniel Sturridge, Sterling has become arguably the most important player for Rodgers’ side.

Yet the Northern Irishman has revealed that he will be giving the 20-year-old some time off during the busy festive period.

“Raheem will have a rest even though he hasn’t been looking tired, either the other night or over the last number of games,” Rodgers was quoted by the Mirror.

“There is a period already mapped out for Raheem when he will come out and have that breather and recovery after Christmas.”

Although Sterling hasn’t been quite as impressive this term as he was last time out, the England international has still managed to score five goals in all competition so far in 2014/15.
