The Germany international is currently on loan at fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach. However, he has made it clear that he wants play for the club whose academy he graduated from once his loan deal ends. His current deal ended in 2017, but this extension means that it now runs until 2019.

This new contract would seem to scupper any possible move for the midfielder in the near future, and definitely any move that was planned for January.

Both the Gunners and the Red Devils will be disappointed have been linked to the player in the past, and both being in need of a defensive midfielder to bolster their ranks.

The 23-year-old told the club website, “After the talks with the leaders in Leverkusen I did not have to hesitate long my contract to extend there. The total package with team coach and the club itself just fits. I know Bayer 04 since my youth, it was always my dream to make it there in the first team.”

Kramer is a World Cup winner and started in the final against Argentina, although he had to leave the field early after suffering a knock to the head.
