The Italian giants have long been linked with a move for the Brazilian defensive player, who has not managed to establish himself as a regular for the Reds this season.

Although Mancini says it may be something of an ambitious move, the former Manchester City boss does feel Lucas could make a great addition to his squad at the San Siro.

Lucas is one of the senior players on the books at Anfield after a long career with the club, and Mancini says his experience could be of great use to a number of the young players currently in the Inter squad.

“Lucas is a great player but he is a Liverpool player and it will be hard to get him,”the Italian said. “It certainly would be useful to us as he could help our youngsters grow.”

Inter have also been linked with other Liverpool players this season, including Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Glen Johnson.
