The Belgian international is a big fan of his fellow countryman, who has shone in the Bundesliga this season with a series of fine displays, resulting in six goals and twelve assists in all competitions.

Although De Bruyne never made the grade during his time at Chelsea, he is now regarded as a top talent and would seemingly be welcomed with open arms to the Etihad Stadium if he did choose to return to England this winter.

Kompany has played alongside the 23-year-old midfielder for Belgium and has supposedly told City he would approve of the signing and that his international team-mate could be a useful addition.

De Bruyne only left Chelsea to join Wolfsburg in an £18m deal in last January’s transfer window.
