Manchester United want to bring Dutch international Ron Vlaar to Old Trafford, and Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert knows the player “holds the cards”…

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has conceded that Manchester United target Ron Vlaar has all the power ahead of the January transfer window, as reported by Goal.

The Dutch international has been tipped to move this winter, with a number of stellar performances at the 2014 World Cup seeing his stock continue to rise.

With the 29-year-old currently in the last year of his current contract, Lambert is not confident that he will be able to hold onto him.

There is a similar situation with English midfielder Fabian Delph, who could also be on his way out of the club if a new deal is not agreed.

“This is a brilliant club regardless what football you’re playing. Those two lads have been fantastic for me the three years I’ve been here,” Lambert said.

“They’re in their last year and from experience when you get into the Bosman ruling you hold that card.

“I’m delighted with the way they’re playing. Whether they’re in their last year or have ten years to go those lads are right behind the football club at the minute.”

United have been regularly linked with a move for the experienced centre-back, with Louis van Gaal knowing him well from his time with the Netherlands national team.

The Red Devils have had serious issues in defence this season, and will almost certainly be looking to strengthen at the back in January.

Vlaar is seen as the ideal signing by the new Dutch boss, and could be on his way to Old Trafford in the next few weeks.
