Liverpool are apparently also interested in the Spaniard…

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has admitted that Chelsea flop Fernando Torres could return to his hometown club in the January transfer window, reports Goal.com.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at AC Milan, but the Italian club want to terminate the deal as he has only scored one goal since signing for the Serie A giants. Liverpool are supposedly also interested in signing their former player.

The Spaniard came through the youth ranks at Atletico, and made his debut for the club at 17-years-old. He was named their captain at the unbelievably young age of 19. Still revered as a big part of the club’s history, it would appear that the La Liga champions would welcome him back.

“The signing of Torres is not (completed), but, that does not mean it will not be,” Cerezo told TVE.

“We have a great team, but we can bring in a signing until the last hour of the transfer market. We will fight for La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey in 2015.”

This will be bad news for Liverpool, who were apparently hoping to bring the striker back to Anfield to help with the front line problems that they have been suffering so far this campaign.
