All five players have won promotion to the first team this season under manager Louis van Gaal, but the Dutchman could be preparing to now axe the starlets from his squad.

Of the five Blackett and McNair look the most likely to be offered new deals by the Red Devils as the defensive duo have played a significant part in the 2014/15 campaign to date.

With Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic all leaving Old Trafford over the summer the two centre-backs have been given more of a chance than perhaps many would have expected.

Blackett has made eight appearances this term, which has included making five starts in the Premier League, whilst McNair has managed seven games and both have impressed enough to suggest they should be kept on.

However, for the remaining trio things seem less certain as they have all struggled to make any impact on the first team this campaign.

Although Lingard started the first game of the season against Swansea City, the midfielder has since had fitness issues and at 22-years-old can no longer be considered a prospect for the future.

James is 21-years-old and is currently on-loan at Rotherham United, whilst 18-year-old Pereira is perhaps the highest regarded of the three and is a firm fixture in the reserves.
