Man City Will Move For £25m Atletico Madrid Striker In January

The Citizens want Mario Mandzukic and have been linked with an even more unlikely target than that…

Manchester City will throw the dice in an attempt to catch Chelsea in the title race in January according to the Daily Star, with the paper linking the club with a £25m move for Atletico Madrid frontman Mario Mandzukic.

The Croatian star bagged 34 goals in 54 games for Bayern last term, and has kept up his hot form in Spain, scoring 14 in 22 games this term.

It’s no surprise City are interested, but they may have to sell before they buy.

The Citizens are already well stocked with strikers, with Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Stefan Jovetic all fighting for places, and Alvaro Negredo out on loan.

Even 18-year-old Juan Angel Pozo has had chance to this season thanks to the injury-prone-ness of those first choice trio, all of whom are currently missing. James Milner was played up front as a lone striker against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

It seems unlikely that Atletico would be willing to let Mandzukic go so easily just 6 months after signing him.

The story in the Star also makes an even more ludicrous claim based around Manuel Pellegrini’s apparent interest in Newcastle striker Papiss Cissé.

The striker, who has not even been first choice for Newcastle at times this season does not seem a feasible target for a club of City’s calibre.
