Training on Christmas day is a tradition at Old Trafford that goes back to when Sir Alex Ferguson first arrived at the club, and had been continued by David Moyes during his ill fated tenure last season. Apparently the Dutchman has scrapped the session in order to show his human side to the squad.

This will allow the players to be with their families on the celebratory day. The 63-year-old hopes that they will repay this opportunity by giving everything to win in their fixture on Boxing Day.

“I have changed that, I have given them free time and Christmas day with the family,” he said of the Christmas day session.

“We shall come together the next day here at our Aon Training Complex. Then we will have all of the meetings like we have done all season. I believe in a total human being so the environment is also important. I think they are more pleased to be at home with their wives and children,” he continued.

“I hope they shall give everything to beat the opponent then.”

The Red Devils play Newcastle on Boxing day. They will be hoping to bounce back after a disappointing draw away at Aston Villa last week. They will need the three points to stay ahead in the race for the top four, with Arsenal, West Ham, and Southampton hot on their heels.
