The Zenit St Petersburg manager has blasted Sherwood, criticising his management style and his handling of the players.

“Tim was not part of my team, but I already alerted the president that he was detrimental to the club,” he said.

“He continued after I left and his leadership resulted in a extreme split between the players and the coach.”

Having flopped at Chelsea, Villas-Boas didn’t fare much better at White Hart Lane. He was eventually replaced by Tim Sherwood, who despite a decent start to life in charge was eventually sacked as well.

The fact that the former Tottenham and Blackburn star was fired clearly didn’t surprise the Portuguese manager one bit, as he does not seem to believe that he has what it takes to be a manager.

Mauricio Pochettino was appointed Sherwood’s successor, and after a shaky start looks to be building a formidable side.

A draw against Manchester United saw them continue their unbeaten run, something they will hope to carry on well in to the new year.
