The 33 year old left Old Trafford for the San Siro over the summer but newly installed Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini is keen to offload the veteran and the Serie A side will allow the centre-back to leave on a free transfer so as to have his wages wiped off the balance sheet.

Vidic is clearly not the player he once was but could still offer van Gaal a strong option at the back and the former fan favourite can do no worse than the likes of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and, to a lesser extent, Chris Smalling have performed this season.

Inter Milan will look to get rid of Vidic next month and though Juventus and Bestikas are both keen the experienced battler is keen on a return to Man United.

Vidic hasn’t adapted well to life in Italy but should still be capable of performing in the Premier League having spent nine seasons in the English top tier.
