The Old Trafford side drew 0-0 with Tottenham on Sunday, and this is shortly after a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last week. The dropped points mean that they are now ten points off Chelsea who are currently the league leaders.

However, the 63-year-old believes that the team’s performance in the first half was their best of the season so far. The Red Devils created lots of chances in the first 45 minutes, but were unable to take any of them.

“I told them in the dressing room that when you cannot win these types of matches when you are the better team – like at Aston Villa and also here – then it is difficult to be the champions at the end of the season,” explained the coach.

“When you play your best first half of the season as Man United at Spurs against a top-six club and you create six or eight open chances you must finish them. You need a little fortune. But if you don’t reward yourself, normally the opponent wins,” he concluded.

The Dutchman will be hoping that his side are able to put the disappointing result behind them when they face Stoke City on New Years Day. They will be looking to get three points from the Potters in order to quell some of their manager’s worries.
