The Portuguese is up against Barcelona ace Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer for the top individual prize in world football. He is widely accepted as the front runner for the award.

Having already scored twenty five goals for his club this season, the forward has been in sensational form in the run up to the awarding of the prize. His Argentinian and German competitors have also been in great form, with the Barca man breaking the all time Champions League goal scoring record and the World Cup winner helping his team to a massive lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

However, the coach believes that the 29-year-old deserves to win. “My vote was for Cristiano Ronaldo,” the 51-year-old said at a press conference in Porto Alegre.

If Ronaldo wins, then he will only be one off equaling Messi’s four Ballon d’Or victories.
