This leaves the 53-year-old free to join the Eagles after speculation that he would leave St. James’ Park intensified in the aftermath of Neil Warnock being sacked by Palace chairman Steve Parish. Still technically the Magpies’ manager, he played over one hundred times for the South London club

Pardew has been a controversial figure at the Toon, with fans seeing him as representing the regime under disliked owner Mike Ashley. As recently as a few months ago his job was in danger after a run of defeats.

There had been doubts that he would be allowed to leave the North East club, as his chairman had originally been looking for a fee of over £5 million for his services. However, he has now thought to have accepted that his manager wants to leave,, and is willing to accept £2.5 million for the ability to speak to him.

One of the major reasons behind Pardew’s desire to move is that he wants more say on transfers, an area where he has been undermined at Newcastle.
