The Eagles sacked Neil Warnock earlier this month and former Selhurst Park star Pardew would be open to a move to move back to the South London side but the £5m compensation payment Crystal Palace would have to pay the Magpies may prove a stumbling block.

Steve Bruce is another option for chairman Steve Parish to consider with the Hull City manager’s contract expiring next summer.

Pardew has been in charge of Newcastle United since December 2010 and has on the whole been a success but was under-fire earlier this season before a run of good results turned the club’s season around.
