When the Blues went eight points ahead of the Citizens earlier in the season, it was thought by some that the title race was over. One bookmaker actually paid out on the bets it had received for the Stamford Bridge outfit to win the league.

However, the gap is down to just three now, and if the Sky Blues hadn’t thrown away a two goal lead against Burnley on Sunday it could have been down to just a single point. Drogba claims that he always knew the race would go down to the wire.

He points to the time that Chelsea lost the league after being miles ahead of Manchester United. The 36-year-old knows the rest of the campaign is going to tough.

“I think it’s going to be tough,” the Ivorian said. ‘We knew it was not over. A few years ago, I think we were 11 or 12 points in front of Man United and then they won the league.

“So eight points or nine points – I don’t know how many points we had on top of Man City – I think it is not enough. At that time of the season, it was too early, but I think now we start again a new championship. I think the game is on,” he added.
