The Argentinian is the top scorer over the last year despite missing quite a few matches due to injury. The former Reds defender believes that the 26-year-old is the only truly world class player in the Premier League, and that he would get in to a world XI as a striker.

The forward was a key reason why the Citizens were able to stay in touch with Chelsea despite poor form before he got injured earlier in the month.

If not for his goals they may have also been knocked out of the Champions League, as it was his hat-trick that helped them to beat Bayern Munich and stay in the competition.

“I’ve selected Sergio Aguero,” said the Sky Sports pundit.

“I think he’s the best player in the league and he’s proved that this season. He’s the top scorer, even though he’s missed quite a lot of games.

“I think he’s the one truly world class player in our league. He would get in a world XI as a striker.”

City play Sunderland next, and will be looking for a win in order to keep up the pressure on the league leaders. If they had not thrown away a two goal lead against Burnley on Sunday then they would have only been one point off the Blues, despite being eight behind earlier in the campaign.
