The 56 year old Scot becomes the second manager axed in a matter of a week, following Crystal Palace’s sacking of Neil Warnock, with the Baggies board deciding to call time on Irvine’s time at the helm.

Irvine replaced Pepe Mel seven months ago but has managed just four wins in 19 Premier League fixtures this term and his sacking isn’t a great surprise.

Tim Sherwood and Tim Pulis are both strongly linked with a move to replace the former Sheffield Wednesday and Preston manager.

West Brom sit in 16th place in the table having lost seven of their last night fixtures.
