The Blues are also interested in Bony.

Having finished 2014 as the highest Premier League scorer in the calendar year it’s little wonder both Chelsea and Manchester City are showing interest in Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony.

The Times reports that the Citizens are preparing a £20m offer for the Ivory Coast international when the January transfer window opens on New Year’s Day.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to improve his attacking options with injuries of late forcing the Chilean to have to play both James Milner and David Silva in a makeshift forward role.

However, it won’t be plain sailing for Pellegrini in the pursuit of Bony as the Blues have also shown interest, although they are not believed to be as far forward in the scouting process.

The Ivorian only recently signed a new deal at the Liberty Stadium which extended his time there until 2018 and unlike his previous contract does not contain a £19m release clause.

Bony is an attractive prospect for the reigning English champions not just because of his proven talent in the top flight, but also because of his eligibility to play in the Champions League this season.

That would also be an appealing aspect for Jose Mourinho, who is looking at the 26-year-old as a long-term replacement for fellow countryman and veteran attacker Didier Drogba.
