Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has previously stated that he was hopeful his Argentine striker would be fit for the tough run of fixtures in January, and now believes the 19-goal star should be ready by the 18th.

The former Atletico Madrid man suffered a knee injury during his side’s 1-0 win over Everton last month, and injuries to both Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic meant the club were facing a striker shortage over the busy Christmas period.

They have been heavily reliant on the goals of Aguero this season, with the prolific forward bailing them out of a number of tricky situations.

Several other players seem to be hitting form at just the right time however, meaning his loss has not been as bitter a blow as many expected.

Nonetheless, his return is still be fantastic news for the Citizens; although possibly not so great for Gunners fans.

Pellegrini also revealed that Dzeko is targeting a return to action as well, with the Bosnian likely to be ready to face the Toffees on the 10th.

“I hope in the next week Edin Dzeko will be fit and in the next week [after that] will be ‘Kun’ [Aguero],” he said.
