Galaxy are set to offer Gerrard the same package that they were able to lure his former England teammate David Beckham to the USA with – £100,000 per week over the duration of a four year contract, with the current MLS Cup holders eyeing up Gerrard as a replacement for Landon Donovan, who retired at the end of the season.

Beckham enjoyed a successful spell in American with the Galaxy, lifting the MLS Cup himself, whilst he also returned to Europe for notable loan spells with AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain – a career path that could attract Gerrard, who has never played for a club other than Liverpool in his long and illustrious career.

Gerrard will follow former England teammate Frank Lampard to Major League Soccer, although the deal taking Lampard to new expansion club New York City FC has become complicated due to Manchester City’s desire to keep him at the Etihad Stadium for an elongated spell on account of his fine form this season.
