The Anfield side had targeted the Armenian international prior to his move from Shakhtar Donetsk to the Westfalenstadion back in June 2013 and may fancy their chances of landing the 25 year old given just how far Jurgen Klopp’s side have fallen.

Dortmund sit in the Bundesliga relegation zone and Rodgers may see Mkhitaryan as an ideal replacement for exit bound veteran Steven Gerrard.

The arrival of Shinji Kagawa may leave Klopp open to selling Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who hasn’t been at his best this term, though there is no denying the talent the attacking midfielder possesses.

Rodgers would do well to bring in a creative midfield talent to replace Gerrard though it’s worth noting that the Liverpool legend has been used in a more withdrawn role of late.

Dortmund paid £23.6m for Mkhitaryan 18 months ago so one imagines they’d demand at least that sum for the player, perhaps more.
