The German playmaker has been out for three months after suffering a knee injury against Chelsea, but is targeting a return at the start of the new year.

Arsenal’s French manager has no intention of rushing the World Cup winner back, but doesn’t think it will take him too long to regain full match fitness.

“Will he [Ozil] be available for Sunday? I don’t think so, but we’ll see,” said Wenger.

“He has been out for three months, [Theo] Walcott has been out for a year. People don’t realise how much time it takes to come back after such a long period.

“But he has been out only for three months so he will be much quicker.”

Theo Walcott has made just two substitute appearances so far this season, and looked to be missing match sharpness in his cameo role against Southampton on new years day.

Having not nearly been out for as long as the England international, Ozil should find his reintegration easier. The former Real Madrid man has struggled to find his best form since making the switch to the Emirates, but Arsenal fans will be hoping things change on his return from injury.
