Louis van Gaal sees the 25 year old French international as an ideal long term replacement for Michael Carrick though the Dutchman will have to battler Arsenal and Tottenham in pursuit of the St Mary’s star.
Both North London sides are willing to fork out £27m for the Saints battler and one imagines Man United have the funds to make a similar offer.

Carrick’s return from injury coincided with Man United’s excellent run of form in recent months but the 33 year old is clearly in the latter stages of his career and as such it makes sense for van Gaal to target a player of a similar ilk.

Arguably Schneiderlin has more bite in the challenge than Carrick but is a well rounded box to box performer who has more than proven his Premier League pedigree over the past 18 months.
