City set sights on big-name striker signing.

Manchester City could turn to Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as an option upfront as they look to the transfer market to bolster their options in that position this season, according to the Sun.

The Premier League champions have been linked with a whole host of big names in that department in recent times, with injuries to Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic forcing manager Manuel Pellegrini to consider spending this winter.

Benteke is the latest name on City’s list as they continue their search, with the powerful Belgian international establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s top strikers before a lengthy spell out through injury of his own last year.

Still, the 24-year-old has impressed since his return for Villa, and is now on the radar of top clubs again as City seem set to come calling this January.

It seems unlikely that Villa would want to let such a key player leave the club in the middle of the season, but a big enough offer may force them to consider his sale.
