The winger had been thought to be close to a move to Anfield, with the Gunners and Inter Milan also monitoring his availability. However, this new competition from the Reds’ fierce Merseyside rivals adds another unknown to the pot.

If the 23-year-old was to make his way to Goodison Park, then it would be a major surprise, with the club not in the Champions League and looking unlikely to get in to the competition for next year. The Swiss international is thought to be available for as little as £11 million, which is affordable to all of the clubs involved in the chase for his signature.

It is looking more and more likely that the Munich ace will leave the club due to the lack of playing time he has had at the Allianz Arena. He was only persuaded to stay in the summer by manager Pep Guardiola telling him he was part of his plans. However, this has not transpired to be true so far, and so a transfer could happen sooner rather than later.
