The Ivorian is keen to stay at the Anfield based side, but does not know if he will be offered a new contract at the club. The 33-year-old thinks that if Brendan Rodgers wanted him to stay at the club then he would have been offered a new deal with the team by now.

The defender is currently departing for the African Cup of Nations, and will be unavailable for at least the next month. It could be longer if the Ivory Coast manage to progress to the latter stages of the competition. They could well do so, being one of the stronger sides in the tournament.

The older Toure brother has looked like one of the Merseyside club’s better defenders this season. Assured performances against Real Madrid and others have helped his reputation after being out of form for much of the last season. The failure of new signing Dejan Lovren to adapt to life at the Reds has also helped the centre-back’s stock to rise.

“I know that while I’m in Africa other players will play [for Liverpool] and I won’t be able to help the team. All I can do is go there, do my best, then come back and fight to show that I’m still a top player,’ Toure told the Liverpool Echo.

“If I get the chance to stay for another year, I will be happy — but it’s not up to me. If I was going to stay, I would maybe have expected to hear something by now. I don’t think too much about the future. I will enjoy every single minute at this club and keep giving 100 percent,” added the experienced player.
