The 30 year old playmaker could be one of many Old Trafford targets with this source claiming that Man United are set for a spending spree that could eclipse the levels forked out over the summer, during which van Gaal spent over £120m.

Sneijder has been a big hit since moving to Turkey and one would have to wonder quite where he would fit into van Gaal’s eleven with Wayne Rooney now filling the attacking midfield role that would presumably be where the former Ajax, Real Madrid and Inter Milan man would be best used.

Perhaps unsurprisingly van Gaal has been linked with a number of Dutch stars with the Man United boss said to be keen on AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman and Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben.
