Done Deal: Chelsea Goalkeeper Completes Transfer To Leicester City

Leicester City have completed the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer on a free transfer until the summer of 2016.

The 42-year-old has a wealth of Premier League experience having played over 500 times in the English top tier for Middlesbrough, Fulham and most recently the Blues.

Schwarzer is also one of only three stoppers to have kept more 150 clean-sheets in the league, along with former teammate Petr Cech and David James.

The Australian is actually an ex-teammate of Leicester manager Nigel Pearson as well, with the pair playing together at Boro between 1997 and 1999.

Schwarzer will also be able to reunite with left-back Paul Konchesky, who the ‘keeper played alongside whilst with the Cottagers and they reached the Europa League final together in 2010.

It was in fact the second time the veteran had played in that showpiece event, reaching the final the first time back in 2006 whilst at the Riverside Stadium.

Schwarzer was signed by Jose Mourinho from Craven Cottage in the summer of 2013 and due to injuries to Cech actually played 12 times for the West London club in all competitions – including both legs of their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.
