The Reds had been in discussion with Shaqiri’s representatives, but terms have now been agreed with Roberto Mancini’s side according to reports.

The 23 year old will join the Italian giants on loan this month, with the deal likely to be made permanent in the summer, in a £12m deal.

This comes after a so far frustrating season for the midfielder who has struggled to make an impact with boss Pep Guardiola, and is now looking to establish himself once more elsewhere.

A huge blow to Brendan Rodgers, particularly with the recent news that Adam Lallana will be out for a month, and with a shortage of goals up front remaining a serious concern.

It seems exiting the Champions League could have a serious impact on January signings for The Reds with Swansea striker Bony also appearing to opt against a move to the club.
