Arsene Wenger has seen his side fail to mount a Premier League title challenge and are fighting to secure a top four finish and as such would do well to strengthen his squad this month.

Moves to bring in this duo would certainly help address two well known ‘problem-areas’ at the North London club.

22 year old Portuguese international enforcer Carvalho, valued at £20m, would offer Wenger steel in the centre of the park with the likes of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini failing to offer consistent protection in either holding or defensive midfield roles.

Perrin would hand Wenger a further defensive option and could be the right man to fill the void left by Thomas Vermaelen’s move to Barcelona.

The £6m rated 29 year old is an experienced campaigner and a player who could be ready to offer a back-up option to Wenger’s first choice centre-back pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

Arsenal have been threadbare at the back at times this term with an injury crisis leading to Nacho Monreal and Mathieu Debuchy being used in makeshift roles.
